Printing Your Own Photos – Ensuring Good Quality

Most people enjoy taking their own photos, either with their smartphone or digital camera. It’s great to also then print your photos at larger sizes and there are many online (and some high street) companies who will do this at a reasonable price. However, it can be difficult to know if the photo you have taken is good enough quality for larger prints.

The Technical Bit

The key is how many ‘megapixels’ the mobile or camera you have used has. This will determine the maximum size you can print the photo at. Also, some media such as canvas (as used on canvas prints), allows slightly larger photos than photographic paper. It’s important to remember that the photo also must have good focus – i.e. be sharp and not too blurry. In addition if you ‘crop’ the photo (i.e. only use a part of it), this decreases the megapixel count and means you won’t be able to print it as large as the full photo.
